Commonwealth Chess Championship: Mandya’s Shefali wins gold

Mandya’s chess prodigy A.N. Shefali, a fourth standard student of Santhome Public School, representing India in the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2017 won the gold in the U-8 Girls category on the concluding day of the championship in Delhi, yesterday.

Shefali, who won her second successive gold in the Commonwealth Chess Championships, is also the reigning National U-7 Girls Champion. She has also won the silver medal in the U-7 category at Asian Schools Chess Championship held at Singapore in 2015.

In the Commonwealth Chess Championship, Shefali secured 6 points and clinched the title in the Girls U-8 section.

Coached by Jayaram of Chess Shoots Academy, Bengaluru, she began playing chess at the age of three. Encouraged by her parents Narendra and Nirmala, this chess prodigy has done everyone proud with her feats in the International level.
