Communist parties stage demonstration against TN’s Sterlite company

Mysuru:  Strongly condemning the Police firing on anti-sterlite protestors at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu in which over a dozen people were killed, activists of communist parties – CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML) and SUCI, staged a demonstration at Ramaswamy Circle here yesterday, demanding that the Sterlite company be shut down immediately.

Alleging that rampant pollution and environment hazards created by Sterlite company had angered the people of Tuticorin, where its factory was located, the protestors claimed that the factory was functioning despite serene protests from residents.

Urging the Government to  immediately shut down the factory,  the protestors demanded appropriate compensation and justice to the families of Police firing victims.

Communist leaders K. Basavaraj, H.R. Seshadri, Chandrasekhar Meti, Umadevi, Harish and others took part.
