Mysuru: People for Animals (PFA), Mysuru, launched ‘Circle of Life’, a mass social campaign of putting reflective collars to community dogs at PFA premises in Roopanagar, here this morning.

The programme was launched by Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep by putting a reflective collars to one of the community dogs. Speaking on the occasion, he said the PFA had launched an animal-friendly programme which helps reduce accidental deaths of dogs.

He also added that the authorities would continue with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme to reduce the stray population.

According to statistics, animals crossing the highways have led to 7,734 accidents between 2012-2014 with 3,000 accidents recorded in 2013. 90 percent of these accidents occur in the night when community dogs come out to scavenge for food.

PFA will be putting collars for the community dogs free of cost but will charge Rs. 50 per collar for the pet dogs.  Animal Husbandry Deputy Director Dr. Prasad Murthy, PFA Managing Trustee Savitha Nagabhushan, Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Nikitha, Shenoz, Kokila Jain, Ritika and others were present.
