Mysore/Mysuru: H. Tejaswi (Tejaswi V.H. Gowda), Spokesperson of Mysuru Rural District Congress Committee, has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to introduce One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for property tax payers and revoke imposition of fine and interest amount for the arrears.
In a press release, Tejaswi has stated that, following COVID-19 pandemic that pushed many into financial difficulties in 2020, many owe arrears towards property tax. Majority among them are still struggling to pay tax from the last 8 to 10 years and have been slapped fine and interest amount.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has waived off 50 percent of the fine amount and has totally waived off the interest amount, allowing the property owners to pay the tax by July 31, 2024 under OTS. Taking a cue from BBMP, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) should totally waive off the interest and fine amount and provide opportunity to pay the tax till August 15. It will not just be beneficial for property owners, but will also bring in substantial revenue to MCC. The poor who are reeling under financial crisis will also be relieved.
The Government has already cancelled the fine and interest amount for those owing arrears towards water bill and given opportunity under OTS Scheme, the release added.
