Cong. MLA Akhanda Srinivasmurthy resigns from Assembly

April 17, 2023

Bengaluru: Miffed over not being announced as the party candidate even in the third list, Congress MLA from Pulakeshinagar (SC reserved) in Bengaluru city, Akhanda Srinivasmurty submitted his resignation as MLA on Sunday.

Akhanda Srinivasmurthy, who drove to Sirsi in Uttar Kannada district, submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri at his (Kageri) office in Sirsi. Upset over possible denial of Congress ticket, Srinivasmurthy is said to be considering quitting the party itself and contest as an Independent candidate from Pulakeshinagar, which he had represented till now.

Srinivasmurthy had won from the Constituency by the biggest margin among all the Congress candidates who were elected in the 2018 Assembly polls. He was in the news when his ancestral home in Bengaluru’s Govindapura was torched by an angry mob during the August 2020 riots, that broke out following a controversial Facebook post allegedly made by one of his relatives.
