Congress Legal Cell fetes District Minister, Virajpet MLA

Mysore/Mysuru: District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa said that a movement type campaign must be launched for creating awareness among the population on the laws of the land.

He was speaking at a programme organised by the Legal Cell of the District Congress Committee, at Congress Bhavan in city to felicitate Chief Minister’s Legal Adviser and Virajpet MLA  A.S. Ponnanna recently.

Pointing out that the Congress Legal Cell should take the lead in launching such campaign, Dr. Mahadevappa opined that in the absence of awareness, the people should have to live in the darkness of the society. Asserting that having legal awareness is vital for the health of the society, the Minister underlined the role of legal fraternity in educating the public on following the Constitution and laws of the land.

Dr. Mahadevappa said that Ponnanna has the responsibility of framing policies within the ambit of the Constitution and guide the Government on legal matters. Lashing out at the National Education Policy (NEP) – 2020 introduced by the Centre, he alleged that the NEP was aimed at taking education back to Manuvada.

Stressing on the need for taking public opinion while framing laws, he said that it is unfortunate that of late nothing of that sort is happening. Asserting that there is no meaning in freedom which does not have equality, he observed that the Parliament should discuss in detail before tabling Bills or enacting laws. He further said that the reading of the Preamble of the Constitution, launched by the State          Government on Sept. 15, was a huge success.

Asserting that over 2.3 crore people registered online for the reading of the preamble of the Constitution programme which is a world record of sorts, MLA Ponnanna said he was thankful to Dr. Mahadevappa for the huge success.

Mysuru District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar and District Congress Legal Cell President Thimmaiah were felicitated. Advocates Suresh Palya, A.R. Kantharaj, H.S. Puttarasa (Prem), K. Gangadhar and T. Manjunath took charge as the office-bearers of the KPCC Legal Cell on the occasion.
