Congress wins Nanjangud TAPCMS polls

Nanjangud: The Congress bagged power in Nanjangud TAPCMS (Taluk Agricultural Produce Co-operative Marketing Society) in the polls held here on Saturday.

The Congress won 12 out of the 13 seats in both A and B category, while the BJP managed just one seat and the group led by former Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa drew a blank.

The Congress emerged victorious in all four seats coming under A category and 7 out of the 8 seats in the B category, while the BJP bagged just one seat.

The winners from A category seats are: G.D. Mahesh of Biligere, K.M. Shivamurthy of Kasuvinahalli, Shivamurthy of K.S. Hundipura and Shivukumar of Yechagalli, all from the Congress.

The winners from B category seats are: K.G. Mahesh, N.M. Manjunath, H.M. Manjula Madhu, Chinnambballi K. Raju, V.R. Vijayakumar, R. Sarvesh of Nagarle, Sunanda Basavaraju of Chamalapuradahundi, all from Congress and S.M. Kempanna of the BJP, who had earlier served as TAPCMS President.

The polling took place at Government Junior College, following which the counting of votes was taken up later in the evening. Tahsildar K.M. Maheshkumar, who was also the Returning Officer, declared the winners.

Former MLA Kalale Keshavamurthy, Congress leaders Srikanta Nayaka, C.M. Shankar and others were present.
