Conman posing as Police Commissioner’s PA attempts to extort money from Cop

Mysuru: An incident of a conman calling a Police Inspector over the phone and trying to extort money by posing as the PA of City Police Commissioner and later backtracking after the Inspector became alert, has been reported in city.

On Thursday, Jayalakshmipuram Inspector B.G. Prakash, who was deputed at Udayagiri, following the recent riots there, received a call in the morning and the person on the other end, who introduced himself as the PA of the Police Commissioner told the Inspector that he would be sending a visually challenged person to him and asked Inspector to give the visually challenged person Rs.2,000 as per the Police Commissioner’s order.

When Prakash asked the person speaking to him to introduce himself, the caller who reportedly identified himself as Prajwal, also told the Inspector that the Police Commissioner had instructed all Inspectors to give Rs.2,000 each to the visually challenged person.

Smelling something fishy, Inspector Prakash asked the caller to call from the landline at the Commissioner’s office. But the caller, who feared of getting caught, disconnected the call abruptly.

Meanwhile, Inspector Prakash is said to have called the Police Commissioner’s office and enquired about the person by name Prajwal and about the Police Commissioner’s order only to know that there was no one by the name Prajwal there and no such order was passed.

Later the Inspector lodged a complaint at Udayagiri Police Station in this regard.
