Constable attempts suicide fearing disciplinary action

Chamarajanagar: A Constable, fearing inquiry, reportedly attempted to commit suicide on Friday night in the Town.

Constable H.R. Mahesh, a native of Ramanahalli village in Hassan district and attached to Chamarajanagar Rural Police Station, is the one who attempted suicide and is out of danger.

Details: Seven Constables including Mahesh were transferred for dereliction of duty and an inquiry was ordered on them by Superintendent of Police (SP) T.P. Shivakumar. Mahesh was transferred to Hanur  Police Station.  

Depressed and fearing inquiry, Mahesh reportedly attempted suicide by setting himself on fire. He was immediately rushed to Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) with burns on his hand, chest and left thigh.

District Surgeon Dr. Krishnaprasad said that Mahesh was brought to CIMS on Friday night with burn injuries for treatment where the Surgeon on duty provided treatment.

Mahesh has been shifted to a Special Ward and is stable now, Dr. Krishnaprasad added.

Meanwhile, SP Shivakumar said that he received information that Constable Mahesh had attempted suicide on Friday night and immediately Dy.SP Priyadarshini Sanekoppa and Inspector rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection besides admitting Mahesh to the hospital.

Mahesh has stated that he attempted suicide over personal issues and Dy.SP has been instructed to conduct a thorough probe and submit a report, the SP added besides stating that there was no threat to Mahesh’s life.
