Lover girl lodges complaint against cop, family at Women’s Police Station

Mysore/Mysuru: A Police Constable who was reportedly in love with a girl student and promised to marry her, has allegedly backtracked forcing the latter to lodge a complaint against the former and his family members at District Women’s Police Station.

The Police who have registered a case under IPC Sections 417, 420, 354 (D), 504, 506, 114 and 34 against the Constable Rangaswamy, his father Rajegowda, mother Kamakshi, sisters Savitha and Renuka, brothers-in-law Devaraju and Ashok and Rangaswamy’s friend Somashekar, are investigating the case.

According to the complaint, the girl student, a resident of Alanahalli village in Periyapatna taluk was in love with Rangaswamy of the same village since 2019.

Meanwhile, on Dec. 12, 2021, the girl’s parents performed her engagement with another youth from Bhoothanahalli village. But stil Rangaswamy assured the girl that he would keep his promise of marrying her, telling her not to marry anybody else.

The girl’s fiance who came to know about her love affair, refused to continue with the alliance.

The complaint further states that, later, the marriage talks between the girl and Rangaswamy was held in the presence of village elders during which the latter’s family members demanded a site in Periyapatna, 100 grams gold jewellery and Rs. 3 lakh cash as dowry.

However, the girl’s family members agreed to the demand for site and 100 grams of jewellery, but refused to give  the cash.

Still, it was agreeable for Rangaswamy and his family members, who assred the girl’s family that they would arrange for marriage in six to seven months.

Meanwhile, the girl’s father Shankar initiated talks to buy a site for Rs. 13 lakh and even paid an advance of Rs. 3 lakh, besides registering the agreement deed in his name.

But on Aug. 9, the family members of Rangaswamy, who came to the girl’s house, told her parents that they would go ahead with the alliance, only if they give Rs. 5 lakh to meet marriage expenses,

Or else, Rangaswamy’s parents told the girl’s parents that they would fix the alliance of  their son with another girl . They also issued a life threat to her parents, if they forcibly marry their daughter to their son..

Following the threat, the girl lodged a complaint at District Women’s Police Station on Aug. 10. Rangaswamy’s parents, who came to know about the girl moving Police station, sought one week’s time to prepare for the marriage, following which the case was not registered.

Later, Rangaswamy and his friend Somashekar, began to stalk the girl when she was going to college, only to harass her.

Yet again, Rangaswamy’s parents too refused to get their son married to the victim, besides abusing her and the parents using foul language and also threatening them with life.

With no other option left, the girl, on Aug. 23 lodged a complaint against Rangaswamy and his family members at the District Women’s Police Station and a case has been registered now.
