Consumer Forum Head warns action against conning people

Mysore/Mysuru: Chairman of Mysuru District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum B. Narayanappa has warned of initiating action against commercial establishments who lure customers with false offers through advertisements.

He was speaking at the National Consumers Day celebration, organised jointly by the District Administration, Food and Civil Supplies Department, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering at the MBA Department of the College on Thursday.

“The Consumer Act is intended at checking the cheating of consumers from vendors and merchants. Case will be booked against those who take prospective consumers for a ride with attractive advertisements online. Be it public or private institutions like industries, water, electricity  supply or other services, efforts will be made to address any discrepancies within the purview of law,” assured Narayanappa.

According to The Consumer Protection Act 2019 (Amended) the details related to the quality of the products should be printed on the cover. In case of any complaints, both the manufacturers and suppliers should own responsibility. Any injustice, the consumers should not refrain from lodging a complaint with the forum and seek justice, he asserted.

Mysuru District Legal Services Authority Member-Secretary of Devaraj Bhute,Vidyavardhaka Sangha President Gundappa Gowda, Secretary P. Vishwanath, members of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum M.K.  Lalitha and Maruti H. Vaddar and Joint Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department Kumuda were present.
