Cops nab accused on the run for 23 years

Mysore/Mysuru: Krishnaraja Police personnel have arrested a person who was eluding them after being released on conditional bail by a Court, 23 years ago. U.P. Mahesh, aged about 51 years, was arrested from an isolated place in the outskirts of Bengaluru on Mar. 2, 2023.

According to Police sources, Mahesh, aged about 28 years at the time of the incident way back in 1997, was the prime accused in an attempt to murder case, along with two other co-accused in the case.

Krishnaraja Police had registered the First Information Report (FIR No. 251/97) under IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons).

After securing bail from the Court, Mahesh had gone absconding, skipping the Court. Following this, the Court had issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) directing the Police to trace and produce him.

Following this, Police team involving Head Constables Suresh, Mokhadder Shariff, Vasanth Kumar and P. Kumar (Technical Cell) and Police Constable B. Mahesh, traced the absconding accused and produced him before the Court which sent him to judicial custody.
