Corona patient dies: Relatives assault docs

Mysore/Mysuru: Doctors and a Security Guard of Emergency Ward in K.R. Hospital were allegedly assaulted by a group of people following death of a Covid patient on Thursday.

A 55-year-old person was admitted to the Hospital for Corona treatment on Wednesday, but he died on Thursday evening. The family members and relatives of the deceased, upon hearing the news, assaulted the doctors.

The Security Guard and an ambulance driver, who went to the rescue of doctors, were also manhandled by the mob.

Talking about the incident, Dr. Abhishek, President, Resident Doctors Association, Mysuru, said the condition of patient was critical when he was brought to the Hospital.

Though his relatives were informed about the non-availability of bed or ventilator, still they insisted on his admission. “He was under triage since Wednesday, but succumbed to the virus on Thursday. When informed, the mob assaulted the doctors. The Security Guard and the ambulance driver were also assaulted,” he said.

“We are also staying away from families and working 24 hours serving patients. Death occurs beyond our control. Assaulting us will make us lose our confidence,” he added.

On receipt of information, ACP M.N. Shashidhar visited the Hospital and collected info about the incident and promised to take action against the accused.
