Mysore/Mysuru: Claiming that the MCC was losing lakhs of rupees in the running of Indira Canteens due to improper monitoring, BJP members led by senior Corporator Sunanda Palanetra questioned the expenditure incurred in the running of the canteens.
Pointing out that there are 11 Indira Canteens in the city, Sunanda said that the MCC is releasing Rs.40-50 lakh to each Canteen and wondered where all the money was going when fewer people are visiting the canteens following the outbreak of COVID.
Corporator Shivakumar pointed out that the MCC was spending money for the running of Indira Canteens, which is a Government funded project and wanted the MCC to install an exclusive software for monitoring the running and maintenance of Indira Canteens.
Health Officer Dr. Jayanth said that the Canteen contractor has been paid bill only till February and the MCC has curtailed payment of Rs.50 lakh following directions from the Commissioner.
Asserting that a computer token system and CCTV cameras have been installed for monitoring the number of people getting food from the Canteen, he said that Health Inspectors and Environment engineers will scrutinise the camera recordings to ascertain the number of food plates served to the people.
Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde said that less number of people have been visiting Indira Canteens after the outbreak of the deadly virus. Asserting that payment has been made only till February, he said that the balance money will be released to the Contractor only after the scrutiny of CCTV footages.
Earlier, the meeting condoled the death of 20 martyred soldiers who died in border skirmishes with China recently, by observing a two-minute silence.The meeting also paid rich tributes to renowned writer Geetha Nagabhushan who passed away at Kalaburagi recently.
Takes oath: Newly elected BJP Corporator from Ward-18 (Yadavagiri) B.V. Ravindra who won the by-polls held earlier this year, took oath of office in the name of Goddess Chamundeshwari.
