Bengaluru: Days after seniormost MLC Basavaraj Horatti quit office as Chairman of State Legislative Council (LC), the election of the new Chairman will take place on Aug.14, a day after the State Legislature Session commences (Aug. 13).
The ruling Congress, which has gained a clear majority in the 75-member Upper House, has already announced that Salim Ahmed is its candidate for LC Chairman and Umashri, his deputy. The election of Salim Ahmed is a foregone conclusion with the ruling Congress having enough number of members and the poll is only a formality.
