Chamarajanagar: Five persons including a couple have lost their lives in two separate road accidents that took place within 24 hours on NH-212.
On Wednesday evening, two youths were killed on the spot, when a car hit their bike near Badanaguppe village in the taluk and on Thursday evening, within 24 hours of the above accident taking place, three persons including a couple were killed when a KSRTC bus collided head on with a bike on the Railway over-bridge on the same road.
The deceased have been identified as Shanthamallappa (55) and his wife Anitha (45) of Heggotara village and Ashok (26) of Chennipuramole village.
Yesterday evening, Shantha-mallappa, Anitha and Ashok were proceeding on the bike from Chamarajanagar to Heggotara village and when they were passing on the Railway over-bridge, a KSRTC bus coming from Mysuru side collided head-on with the bike killing the three on the spot.
It is learnt that Shanthamall-appa and Anitha had gone to Chamarajanagar to avail medical treatment. After getting treatment, the couple met Ashok, who offered them a lift to Heggotara village and the trio were proceeding towards the village when the accident took place.
Chamarajanagar Traffic Inspector Mahesh, Sub-Inspector Nandeesh, Superintendent of Police (SP) Divya Sara Thomas and Dy.SP Priyadarshini Sanekoppa visited the spot. A case has been registered at Chamarajanagar Town Police Station.
Traffic Inspector Mahesh said that everyone should know that by following traffic rules while riding or driving vehicles, they will be safe and most of the road accidents take place when traffic rules are violated which results in injuries and death. Hence it is very important to follow traffic rules.
Helmets will be made mandatory: Inspector Mahesh said that in a bid to prevent deaths and serious injuries during road accidents, wearing helmets for two-wheeler riders will be made compulsory.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, he said that the five persons who were killed in two separate accidents had died of severe bleeding due to head injuries. Their lives could have been saved, if they had worn helmets, he added.
“These accidents are being taken seriously. Helmet rule will be brought to force after holding discussions with the SP and will be implemented with immediate effect. Strict action will be taken against motorists for traffic rules violations,” the Inspector said.
