COVID coming under control in City: MCC Commr.

COVID Care Centre inaugurated at Farooqia Women’s Polytechnic

Mysore/Mysuru: Asserting that COVID-19 pandemic is gradually coming under control in the city, MCC Commissioner  Shilpa Nag said that only a couple of Red Zones in the city is ample proof for this. She was speaking after inaugurating a COVID Care Centre (CCC) at Farooqia Women’s Polytechnic at Udayagiri here yesterday.

Noting that the caseload was high in city when the second wave of the deadly pandemic struck, Shilpa Nag said that due to concerted efforts of the authorities, the caseload has come down drastically over the past few days, with most of the MCC wards continuing to stay in Green Zone. Expressing hope that Mysuru will become COVID-free soon, she said that the Beedi Workers Hospital in N.R. Assembly segment has already been converted into a CCC. But as local Corporators sought one more COVID care facility, a CCC has been set up in Farooqia Women’s Polytechnic, she said and added that the Corporators themselves are funding medical equipment for the centre.

Complimenting the support extended by Corporators cutting across party lines, she said that the Corporators are taking interest in testing people in all households by accompanying teams that are engaged in door-to-door survey.

Continuing, she said that the MCC has appointed 40 doctors and 40 nursing staff on contract basis to overcome shortage of medical staff at COVID treatment facilities. Shilpa Nag said that many people have volunteered to be part of  non-medical COVID duties. Former Mayor Ayub Khan said that a COVID Care Centre was set up at Farooqia College when the pandemic broke out last year, where more than a thousand people got treated. Now the centre has been opened on the same lines with support from many organisations.

Former Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, Deputy Mayor Anwar Baig, Corporators Shantakumari, Ashwini Ananthu, Usha Narayanappa, social activist Nabeel Mohammed Khan and others were present.
