Mysore/Mysuru: When doctors across the country were protesting against assault on their colleagues on the COVID-19 duty under the umbrella of Indian Medical Association (IMA), four medico volunteers at Seth Mohandas Tulasidas ‘COVID Mitra’ Triage and Counselling Centre performed dance to convey the message ‘doctors are heroes saving patients and Corona positive patients, and not villains’.
Through dance, they conveyed to people that doctors make efforts to save life of critical patients. Sometimes patients die without responding to treatment. Holding doctors responsible, people physically assault and abuse them. The doctors wear PPE kits and attend to patients without food and water and it is the responsibility of society to respect them.
Dr. B.S. Sanjana, a dentist and daughter of B.S. Srinath and H.S. Anupama couple, Dr. Aisiri Shivakumar, daughter of Shivakumar and Gita couple, Dr. B.K. Amulya, daughter of Kapanigowda and Savita couple and R.S. Srikalpa, student of Sarada Vilas Pharmacy College and daughter of R.S. Satyanarayana and D.S. Subbalakshmi, were those who danced at ‘COVID Mitra’ centre on June 18.
While Dr. Aisiri is Bharatanatyam and Kathak dancer, three others are classical dancers.
They told SOM that assaulting doctors on COVID duty will demoralise them. People must not forget that they are also human beings. When relatives of positive patients are scared to go near them, Doctors and Nurses treat them risking their lives. Doctors are always heroes and not villains for patients. “Former Commissioner of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Shilpa Nag, had prompted them to dance and create awareness on the lines of Kerala medicos. So, we performed to remove wrong notion among people,” they added.
Kerala connection
Two medicos from Thrissur Medical College had recorded a 30 seconds video of dance to a famous song of 1970, shot in the College corridors on March 23.
They had shared this video on Instagram to create awareness on Corona.
It was viewed by over 10.26 lakh people and had received support from young doctors across the country through dance. Now, the dance by Mysuru students is attracting people.
