Mysore/Mysuru: BJP Medical Cell City unit Convenor Dr. Ravindranath, an Orthopaedic surgeon at the city’s Brindavan Hospital, observed that the intensity of second wave of the deadly COVID -19 contagion is likely to come down in June.
He was speaking after handing over 7 Oxygen concentrators to the city BJP office at Chamarajapuram yesterday.
Maintaining that the COVID situation is gradually coming under control in the city, Dr. Ravindranath said that this can be seen in the dwindling demand for beds over the past few days.
Noting that the second wave struck in February with a sudden surge in caseloads in Maharashtra and Delhi, he said that the second wave struck Karnataka after Apr. 10.
Opining that the caseloads will decline by the end of this month, he said that the pandemic may come under full control in June. Attributing the intensity to negligence on following COVID appropriate behaviour, he said that the intensity in the second wave is such that the infected patients start to suffer from breathing problems and lung infection just one week after testing positive.
Contending that the recovery rate was much higher when the pandemic broke out last year, Dr. Ravindranath said that another point is that there is a huge demand for medical oxygen in the current second wave, which was not the case last year.
The Cell’s Kodagu District Unit Convenor Dr. Aiyyappa attributed breathing problems and lung infection to blood clotting. Also, patients are getting admitted in hospitals at the last minute which is also the cause for deaths, he said and added that recovery of patients in the second wave is taking a much higher time than last year.
City BJP President T.S. Srivatsa said that the BJP helpline has got over 3,700 calls in 28 days after it was launched, out of which more than 1,700 calls have been addressed. Pointing out that two ambulances sponsored by the BJP are currently in service, he said that a two-day advanced training on handling of ventilators was organised under the aegis of City BJP, in which 50 technicians took part. Also, 15 more Oxygen concentrators are being brought to the BJP office in a couple of days, which will be handed over to hospitals in need of them, he added.
Paediatrician Dr. Madhu Patel, ICU Specialist Dr. Gururaj, BJP Medical Cell office-bearer S.E. Girish, Party leaders Mahesh Raje Urs, Cable Mahesh and others were present.
