Mysore/Mysuru: Terming the Budget (2023-24) presented by the Centre as Anti-people and Anti-poor, members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a demonstration near the Deputy Commissioner’s office here yesterday.

Demanding that the Centre should order a fair probe into the deals of Adani Group of companies which is under the dock for alleged  financial frauds and stock market manipulation, the protesters wanted the Union Government to act sternly against Adani group.

Stating that the Union Budget presented recently had failed to address poverty, unemployment, inflation, rocketing prices of essential commodities and the like, they maintained that the Budget had not made any attempt to address burning issues concerned with the livelihood of  people. Accusing the Union Government of being Corporate and Capitalist friendly, they alleged that the Government was out to privatise key sectors such as education and health, by cutting down funds.

Seeking a probe by Supreme Court appointed panel or by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into all of  Adani’s deals, they urged the Centre to come to the rescue of distressed and distraught farmers by announcing a remunerative support price for all crops. Strongly opposing the Centre’s privatisation moves of Public Sector and asset monetisation plans, they wanted the Government to come up with social security plans as a mass welfare programme.
