CPI(M), SUCI(C) demand judicial investigation into MUDA affairs

July 4, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded a judicial probe into alleged irregularities in site allotments by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

Jagadish Surya, Secretary of the CPI(M), criticised MUDA for deviating from its intended purpose of providing sites at concessional rates to those without residential dwellings, accusing it instead of favouring real estate interests.

The CPI(M) also called for the transfer of long-serving MUDA officials and staff, alleging their complicity in perpetuating the alleged irregularities.

The protesters highlighted the plight of thousands living in rented accommodations for decades, awaiting site allotments from MUDA. They criticised MUDA for eroding public trust.

Meanwhile, C. Ravi, the District Secretary of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), is calling for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into alleged irregularities within MUDA.

According to Ravi, MUDA, which was established to ensure planned development, has strayed from its primary mission of providing housing to economically disadvantaged individuals.

In his statement, Ravi pointed out that instead of fostering planned growth, MUDA has disproportionately allocated housing to those who already own property, neglecting the basic needs of the poor. This misallocation has resulted in unauthorised slums around the city where essential services are lacking due to inadequate planning.

“For fairness and efficiency, it is crucial to address these deficiencies and rectify the situation for the benefit of the underprivileged residents,” Ravi noted.
