Addl. SP C. Mallik chairs District Narco Coordination Committee meeting
Mysore/Mysuru: Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl.SP) C. Mallik advised officers to create awareness about the ill-effects of consuming narcotic drugs among youngsters.
He was chairing the District-level Narco Coordination Committee meeting at Zilla Panchayat meeting hall in the city recently.
Addl.SP Mallik said, apart from creating awareness, the youths should be cautioned that the consumption of narcotic drugs is also an offence. Those found under the influence of drugs, should be subjected to medical test, he added.
The Excise Department personnel should conduct extensive searches and raid those spots found suspiciously. There are chances of growing ganja plants in the backyard of the house, which can be prevented by carrying out regular raids.
Smoking cigarette and beedi in public places is prohibited, which should be checked by imposing spot fine. Apart from taking a toll on the health of whoever consumes tobacco products, even the passive smokers are affected, said Addl. SP Mallik.
To make the drug addicts free from continuing with their habit, Rehabilitation Centres are being operated in several places, which have also succeeded in reforming the drug addicts, he said.
In Mysuru district alone, 80 people have been booked in 71 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, informed Mallik.
