Cricket Tournament for TB Awareness

A day-long RNTCP Cricket Tournament jointly organised by the  District Health and Family Welfare Department and District TB Control Centre, with the theme ‘Unite to end TB’ was held at J.K. Grounds near the City Railway Station here recently.

District TB Control Office Dr. C. Suvarna inaugurated the tournament by striking a cricket ball with a  bat.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Suvarna said the tournament was aimed at creating awareness among the public on eradication of TB disease.

Expressing concern over rise tin TB cases across the country, she highlighted the need for sensitising the people on the free TB treatment facilities at Government hospitals and hoped that the Cricket Tournament hospitals and hoped that the Cricket tournament will serve the purpose at least to some extent. DC D. Randeep , ZP CEO Shivashankar and other officials, visited the venue before the inauguration. The tournament which was originally scheduled for two-days, was cut short to one-day by the organisers due to poor response.

Although all the 31 districts of the State were invited much in advance to take part in the tournament, only six teams representing Mysuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Rural,Bengaluru Urban and Chamarajanagar districts took part.
