Curbing of online frauds by CEN Police

Sir,

It is a pity that various schemes and frauds are operated by the scammers and the lure of money draws the gullible public to invest in the same.

Scams in the name of Google ratings, job offers and hotel reviews are common. Initially the victims receive money from the fraudsters to gain their trust. Later they are coerced to transfer larger amounts, after receiving which, the fraudsters switch off their mobiles and vanish into thin air.

The banks are regularly sending alerts and warning the public that they do not send any messages asking for details and request the customer to visit the nearest branch for any information. Despite this many customers share the OTP and end up losing money to fraudsters.

There is no doubt that the Police and CEN authorities are doing their best to educate the public, not to fall victims to these schemes. Despite these warnings, we keep reading regularly about victims from Mysuru and surroundings falling prey to these scamsters.

It would be a great boon to the general public if this problem is nipped at its bud and awareness created for the larger good.
