Suttur: Curtains fell on six-day annual Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogigala Jatra Mahotsav, famously known as Suttur Jatra, at Suttur Srikshetra in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district yesterday.

The religious fete led by Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji came to end with the valedictory of Krishi Mela and Exhibition. Lakhs of people visited the Jatra that was a hub of awareness programmes including agriculture, industries, health, technical, handicrafts, commerce, academic and science.

Devotees who came from every nook and corners of the State, besides other parts of the country and also from abroad, witnessed melange of events like religious fest, cultural ensemble, agriculture expo and seminars to name a few.

While 114 couples entered into wedlock at the mass marriage ceremony organised as part of the annual congregation.

The scale of the Jatra that was toned down due to COVID-19 induced situation in the last two years was organised on a grand scale this year, that was kick-started by the Suttur Seer.

The Krishi Mela included the concept of ‘Krishi Brahmanda’ on one acre of land, along with exhibitions of handlooms and handicrafts, household products, ‘Chitra Santhe’ (painting expo), kite and wrestling contests.

The devotees were overwhelmed to take part in Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogigala Rathotsava (car festival) held on Jan. 21, while on Jan. 22, Teppotsava (coracle fest) of Utsava Murthi was conducted. Fireworks attracted a big crowd, while first-ever Kapila Arati was conducted by Yuva Brigade.

As the number of devotees swelled on Jan. 22, traffic jam was witnessed near Suttur, forcing some of the devotees to return home following day.
