Mysuru: Cyber criminals in the guise of Mumbai Police have cheated a senior citizen, a resident of Bhyraveshwara Nagar in city to the tune of Rs. 11.80 lakh.
About 15 days back, the senior citizen received a call from an unknown number and the caller on the other end of the phone, who identified himself as a Cop from Kolaba Police Station in Mumbai, told the senior citizen that his mobile phone number has been used for unlawful activities and his mobile phone will be seized in two hours. Cyber fraudsters, who came to know that the senior citizen was in fear and shock, made a video call and collected information including the senior citizen’s bank accounts and even jewellery he had.
The fraudsters then warned the senior citizen not to tell anyone that he was contacted by them and keep it a secret as the investigation was going on. Later, the fraudsters got Rs. 3.30 lakh transferred to a small finance bank through RTGS from the senior citizen and after a few days, the senior citizen pledged his gold ornaments and again transferred Rs. 8.50 lakh to the small finance bank. The senior citizen then tried to contact the cyber criminals and as they could not be contacted, the senior citizen, realising that he had been cheated, lodged a Complaint at city’s CEN Crime Police Station.
