D.V. Halabhavi Awardee

Mysuru: Well-known artist Eshwar N. Joshi of Hubballi has been selected for D.V. Halabhavi Award for the year 2020.The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, given by Dharwad-based Bellad Educational and Agricultural Foundation and a citation.

A native of Hubballi, EshwarJoshi is among the renowned painters of the State. He is well-versed in oil painting, water painting, photography, theatre arts, writing critical reviews, etc. After obtaining his Diploma in Painting from Hubballi’s Vijaya Mahantesh College of Fine Arts, he obtained his Masters Degree from Dharwad’s D.V. Halabhavi School of Arts. He joined the Department of Public Instruction and served as In-charge Assistant Director (Painting) of the Department and as a Subject Supervisor of Bengaluru Division. 

He has organised many solo expos of his painting works and has taken part in top art exhibitions in the State and other parts of the country. 

Many of his paintings can be seen at Karnataka Government Museum, Dr. M.V. Minajagi Art Gallery and a few other private galleries. 

He has been conferred the Most Innovative Art Teacher Award by Moodabidri’s Acharya Foundation and Dasara Special Award in recognition of his marvellous painting works.

Danappa Veerabhadrappa Halabhavi (D.V. Halabhavi) started JSS Halabhavi School of Arts at Dharwad in 1935. An Endowment Award is given in his memory to outstanding artists since 2004 and the institution was handed over to JSS Mahavidyapeetha in 2008.
