Daily food allowance to accused in Police custody hiked to Rs. 150

November 28, 2024

Mysuru: The daily food allowance of accused in Police custody (lock-up contingency) has been increased from the current Rs. 75 daily to Rs. 150, as per the order from the State Government.

The hike in daily food allowance will be implemented in all Police Stations following recommendation from the National Human Rights Commission.

Due to increase in the prices of groceries, the present daily food allowance of Rs. 75 was not sufficient and the Station House Officers were spending money from their pockets to provide food for the accused. To provide nutritious food for the accused in Police custody, a recommendation was made to increase the daily food allowance from Rs. 75 to Rs. 300 and the State Government,                                               after revising the same has fixed the daily food allowance to Rs. 150 and has issued an order in this regard.
