‘Dalits should come out with a new culture’

Mysuru: A seminar on ‘Dalita Drushti’ was organised at Kuvempu Vedike as part of Kannada Sahitya Sammelana here on Friday.

Presiding over the seminar,  Writer and Police Training School Principal Dr. Dharani Devi Malagati opined that reservation was the constitutional right of dalits which should be extended to private sector too and asked dalits to come out and build a new culture.

Remembering the contributions of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, she added that the late King encouraged education by starting many schools, hostels and boarding homes.

Speaking on the occasion H. Dundappa said that many Dalit organisation had come up but were facing a shortage of leadership.

He opined that a good leader alone can find solutions to present social problems. R.B. Agavane opined that education was vital for Dalits which alone can fight oppression especially among women.

Shivarudra Kallolikara observed that casteism among political parties was paving way for a new sort of untouchability.
