Dalits stage demo against burning of Constitution

Mysuru:  Strongly condemning the reported burning of a copy of the Constitution of India by miscreants at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi recently, hundreds of Dalits under the joint banner of ‘Samvidhana UIisi Horata Samithi’, Mysuru, Ashokapuram Adikarnataka Mahasamsthe and other Dalit Associations, staged a demonstration in front of the DC office here this morning demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Claiming that the Constitution of India, written by Dr.B.R. Ambedkar was under threat, the protestors demanded that the culprits be booked under Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971 and be externed from the society. They presented a memorandum at the DC office in this regard.

Earlier, the protestors, raising slogans against the Union Government, marched in a procession from Ambedkar Park in Ashokapuram and passed through Ashoka Circle (Ballal Circle), RTO Circle, JLB Road and Vinoba Road to reach the DC office.

Gnanaprakash Swamiji, former Mayor Purushotham, writer Prof. K.S. Bhagavan, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru and others took part.
