Dalits stage protest, demand sacking of Social Welfare Department official

Mysuru:  Accusing Social Welfare Department Officer Prabha of irregularities and corruption, nearly 200 members of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) staged a demonstration in front of DC’s office here yesterday, demanding her immediate sacking.

Listing out the alleged irregularities and corruption by Prabha, the protesters alleged that the officer had failed to utilise the package fund meant for the welfare of nomadic communities, failed in organising untouchability eradication programmes, has cheated the Government in the appointment of Cooking Assistants and had failed to address the grievances of the students in hostels run by the Social Welfare Department, among other irregularities.

The protesters warned of intensifying their protest, if the Government failed to sack the officer.

DSS office-bearers Bettaiah Kote, Shambulingaswamy, Ratnapuri Puttaswamy, Umamahadeva, B.D. Shivabuddhi and others led the protest.
