University of Mysore (UoM) and JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., have won first prizes in the category of Ornamental Garden Contest organised as part of recent Dasara Flower Show in city.
The prizes were distributed to the winners in various Ornamental Gardens Contest (industries and organisations category-1) during the valedictory of Dasara Flower Show, organised at Kuppanna Park by Department of Horticulture and District Horticulture Society.
JK Tyre won first prize in three categories — Garden Management, Mexican Lawn, Ornamental Pots and Rose Garden, while University of Mysore won first prize in Big Ornamental Garden category.
The other first prize winners are as follows: Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Ltd., Bank Note Paper Mill India Pvt. Ltd., Infosys Limited, L&T Services Ltd., and Sai Exports Private Ltd.
Following were adjudged for First and Best Prize: Vinyas Innovative Technology Private Limited, Bajaj Autotech Private Limited, Automotive Axles Ltd., Meritor HVS (India) Limited, Wuerth Elektronik India Private Limited, Kluber Lubrication India Private Limited, Kaynes Technology India Limited, Ganesh Consultancy and Analytical Services, Brakes India Private Limited, Hitachi Energy India Limited, H&V Advanced Materials (India) Private Limited, ITC Ltd., Carlsberg India Pvt. Ltd., Skanray Technologies Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.
In the category of administrative offices garden, following secured first prize: Abdul Nazir Sab State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Institute, State Institute of Urban Development, Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Zilla Panchayat, Mysore Palace Board, Superintendent of Police’s (SP) residence, KSRP Commandant and CPWD; Karnataka Gramin Bank (KGB) got second prize.
In the category of educational institutions, following secured First and Best Prize: JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS-AHER), JSS Ayurveda Medical College, The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Excel Public School, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Police Public School, MMK&SDM Women’s College, Heritage City College, SDMIMD and Ramakrishna Vidyakendra.
In the category of Hospital, Apartment, Mall, Hotel and Service Station Gardens, following secured the prize: St. Joseph’s Hospital, JSS College of Pharmacy, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bharat Cancer Hospital, Bantwal Sulochana Madhava Shenoi Trust, Sankalp Central Park apartment, SRS Apartment, Brigade Symphony Owners Association, Pratham Tulip Apartment, Sankalp Temple Trees, Mall of Mysore, Lalith Mahal Palace, Silent Shores Resort & Spa, GRS Fantasy Park, Balaji Service Station, Kodagahalli Service Station and Venkateshwara Service Station.
The prizes were also given in the categories of private home gardens and flower rangoli competitions.
Dr. Hemamalini Lakshman, wife of Dr. Lakshman of Kannan Diagnostic Centre, Mysuru, has won first prize for Best Outstanding Garden for both Terrace Garden and Farm Garden categories. This is the 9th consecutive time that the couple has won the first prize.
HL Tranqvilla is a Unique Farm Garden with numerous exotic fruit trees sourced from all over the world.
There is a beautiful Rose Bower with a variety of British and American roses including the famous David Austin roses in full bloom. The roof top Garden boasts of more than 90 Bonsais and variety of flowering plants and Lilly ponds and ornamental plants.
For the 6th consecutive year, Nishhat Afza has won first prize for her Terrace Garden and Waterfalls in the Dasara Home Garden Competition organised by the Mysore Horticultural Society.
Nishhat Afza is the Founder- Director of CURIOCITY – School of Creative Art and Design, N.R. Mohalla, Mysuru, which has been running successfully from past 35 years and has trained thousands of students in various creative arts.
She makes her own organic compost to nourish her plants using her kitchen waste. Her garden is a reflection of diversity in plant world with a good collection of ornamental plants, succulents, fruits, vegetables and Bonsais.
Every year there is a new addition to her garden. The Gazebo now houses a beautiful fairy garden with a variety of succulents arranged artistically using pebbles and figurines. All the walls are covered with beautiful creepers and in the middle of the garden you can find a beautiful lotus pond with Pelicans. There is also a Zen garden which houses a collection of Bonsais.
