Dasara folk artistes seek hike in remuneration

Mysore/Mysuru: Folk artistes who take part in Dasara procession have demanded a hike in remuneration from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 5,000.

Addressing a press meet here recently, Mysuru-Chamarajanagar-Mandya District Folk Artistes Association President L. Mahadevappa said that Rs. 1,500 being given currently for Dasara folk artistes is too less and as such, the authorities must hike the remuneration to Rs. 5,000. Maintaining that folk artistes are ignored once the procession reaches Bannimantap, he urged the District Administration to give due recognition to the artistes.

Urging the authorities for making vehicle arrangements for artistes to return from Bannimantap after the procession, Mahadevappa said that the authorities must also provide basic amenities to them. Asserting that several representations to officials in this regard have fallen on deaf ears, he wanted CM Siddharamaiah to direct officials to protect the interests of artistes. Kiralu Mahesh and Revanna were present at the press meet.
