Dasara Games – CM Cup 2018: KOA plans to conduct 10 games in Bengaluru

September 23, 2018

In this years’ Dasara Games — CM Cup — 2018, jointly organised by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), District Administration, Mysuru and Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA), from Oct.1 to 16, according to informed sources, 10 out of the 25 games have been planned to be conducted in Bengaluru instead of conducting all the 25 games in Mysuru.

This move has been opposed by most of the Sports Associations from the eight districts who are involved in fielding the teams in the Championships which for the first time is being conducted in the changed format.

Dasara Games traditionally is conducted as a mega event in Mysuru city only and gives the chance to the sports persons from different mofussil centres to exhibit their talent along with the top players. If the organisers decide to shift 10 disciplines to Bengaluru, many players may not be able to take part in the event.

Hence, a meeting has been called by DYES, KOA in this regard along with Sports Associations tomorrow in Bengaluru to decide on the conduct of the events in Bengaluru.

Many Sports Associations have urged the authorities concerned to conduct all the games in Mysuru itself as the city has all the necessary infrastructures to conduct all the 25 games.

They also claim that the reason given that there no sufficient infrastructure available is not correct as Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium (Multi-purpose — Gymnastics, Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Table Tennis), Hockey Ground, Athletic Synthetic Track, University Grounds (Kho-Kho, Football, Badminton, Kabaddi) and other facilities are available in the Heritage City itself.
