Dasara State-Level Open Chess Tournament: Darshan, Manasa emerge champs

Mysuru’s V.P. Darshan and H.R. Manasa won the Open men and women titles respectively on the concluding day of the two-day State Level Dasara Open Chess Championships, conducted by Mysore District Chess Association (MDCA) in association with DYES & Dasara Sports Committee at the Chamindi Vihar Indoor Stadium, here yesterday.

V.P.S. Darshan and Balkishan of Bengaluru tied with 8.5 points from nine rounds, but the former’s better progressive tiebreak score of 56 enabled him to clinch the title. Shivanth of Mysuru finished third with 7.5 points.

In the women’s section, Mysuru’s H.R. Manasa clinched the title with 6.5 points from 7 rounds. Khushi M. Hombal of Bhadravathi finished second with 6 points (PG score-32). Prasiddhi Bhat of Mysuru secured the third place with 6 points (PG score 30.5).

Winners were awarded cash prizes, medals and certificates by the organisers.  The prizes were given by C.B. Rangaiah, Deputy Director, DYES (B’luru) and Suresh, Assistant Director, DYES (Mysuru).

MDCA President N. Sudharshan, Hon. Secretary K.R. Shivarame Gowda, were present on the occasion.
