Dasara Triathlon event held: Participants Swim, Pedal and Run to Win

Mysuru: Though the Triathlon sports event was finalised just three days ago, a total of 98 participants from across the country took part in the event that was held at the University Swimming Pool at Saraswathipuram here this morning.

Triathlon is an athletic competition consisting of swimming, cycling and long-distance running.

Participants had come from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Kodagu, Kolar, Belagavi, Kholapur, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad and other places.

The event was held for men, women, boys, girls and senior citizens in Super Sprint and Sprint Triathlon categories.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abhiram G. Sankar said that the event was planned about three days ago and expressed happiness about participants from across the country coming for the event in such a short time.

The Super Sprint category consisted of swimming (400 mts), cycling (10 kms) and running (2.5 kms). The Sprint category consisted of swimming (750 mts), cycling (20 kms) and running (5 kms). The participants, after swimming in the pool, cycled on the road around the swimming pool up to the specific distance and then ran the said distance marked for them.

Super Sprint Triathlon

U-16 boys: 1. Nihar (Mysuru), 2. Manoj (Mysuru) and 3. Shreyas (Mysuru);

U-16 girls: 1. Nagashree (Mysuru), 2. Shobitha (Bengaluru) and Pearl.

Above 16 boys: 1. Keerthi (Bengaluru), 2. R. Amogh (Bengaluru) and 3. Tejas (Mysuru).

Above 16 girls: 1. Geetika (Kodagu), 2. Poornima (Mysuru) and Yashika.

Junior category: Yajath.

Senior Citizens category: Dr. Piyush Kantidas, a 67-year-old Scientist from Bengaluru.

Sprint Triathlon

U-16 girls: 1. Srusti (Belagavi, 2. Dishna (Mysuru and 3. Prachi (Bengaluru); Above 16 girls: 1. Abhigya, 2. Shivani and 3. R. Divya; Above 16 boys: 1. Omkumar (Mysuru), 2. Vinith (Bengaluru) and 3. Sujan (Mysuru).

Prizes were distributed to the winners by Swimming Coach Sundareshan and freelance sports journalist C.K. Muralidharan at the University Swimming Pool premises.
