Datta Jayanti at Chinmaya Mission from Nov. 26 to Dec. 3

Mysuru: Chinmaya Mission, Mysuru, is celebrating Sri Datta Jayanti at Sri Datta Sannidhi, #148, 6th Main, Gokulam 3rd Stage, here from Nov.26 to Dec. 3.

Datta Jayanti, celebrated all over India, falls  on Dec.3 which  is the full moon day of the margashira month. The day commemorates the avatara of the Hindu God Sri Dattatreya,  the Divine Trinity, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, who incarnated to destroy the negative energies growing enormously in the world.

It is believed that on the day of the Jayanti, the positive Datta principle is many times more active on earth compared to other times. It is a strong belief that worshipping Dattatreya, with devotion on this day, one gets maximum spiritual benefit.

The traditional practice of celebrating Datta Jayanti is by reading the Guru Charitra for seven days prior to Datta Jayanti,  ritualistic puja, satsang and singing of bhajans on all days. Chinmaya Mission, Mysuru, will celebrate this spiritual event under the guidance of Pujya  Swami Dattapadananda, who  himself is an ardent devotee of Sri Dattatreya.

Pujya Swamiji will deliver discourses in Kannada at the same venue from 6.30 pm to 8 pm from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2 on Sri Guru Chariteyha Tatwagalu. There will be chanting of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama from 6 pm to 6.30 p.m.

On Nov.29, Gita and Tapovan  Jayanti will be observed. There will be mass chanting of all the 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita from 4 pm to 7 pm. This will be followed by Sri Tapovan Ashtakam and  paduka puja.

On Dec.1,  Sri Hanumadvrata will be observed at Sri Ramakshetra, 5th Main, Sarvajanika Hostel Road, Vidyaranyapuram, at 11 am. Puja, satsang and mangalarathi are the highlights.
