DC cancels notification issued for MCDCC Bank polls

Mysore/Mysuru: In what is considered as a setback to the current MCDCC (Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Central Co-operative) Bank President G.D. Harish Gowda, who is also Hunsur MLA, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. K.V. Rajendra, who is also the Electoral Officer, has cancelled the notification issued for holding the bank election on Nov.4 as the  electoral rolls for the poll has not been prepared. The term of the current President and the Executive body ends on Nov. 10.

The poll notification has been cancelled as per the provisions of Sections 13(D)1 and (2) of Karnataka  Co-operative Institutions Act,1959.

Dr. Rajendra said that complaints have been received that the Bank has given directions to its member Co-operative Societies for submission of delegate forms. In the backdrop of cancellation of poll notification, the Bank’s member Co-operative Societies have been asked not to elect their representatives and submit delegate forms until the next poll notification is issued. But still some Co-operative Societies have sent delegate forms, which will  become invalid since the poll notification has been cancelled, the DC pointed out.

MCDCC Bank President moves Court

Reacting to the cancellation of the poll notification according to which the polls for electing a new Executive body was to take place on Nov.4, MCDCC Bank President G.D. Harish Gowda said that they have moved the Court questioning the cancellation of poll notification.

Stating that the Court will take up hearing of the petition on Sept.19, Harish Gowda said that the Court has made oral observations that no electoral process should be made until the hearing. But despite the Court’s oral instruction, it is surprising that the DC has cancelled the poll notification, he said adding that he is going to wage a legal battle against the Government’s wilful action which is violative of the Court direction.

Meanwhile, the cancellation of the poll notification is seen as an attempt by the ruling Congress Government to take control of the prestigious MDCC Bank which is now run by the Executive body headed by JD(S) MLA G.D. Harish Gowda, who is the son of Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda.
