DC chairs disabled persons grievances meet

Mysuru: Over a hundred differently abled persons from across the district attended the grievances meet jointly organised by the District Administration, ZP, Women and Child Welfare Department and Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens at the ZP hall here this morning.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep. Alleging that Gram Panchayats were ignoring them while making welfare plans, a few specially abled persons urged for involving them in chalking out plans on spending 3 per cent of the sectoral budget that is earmarked for the disabled.

Some others, claiming that they has no shelter, demanded the authorities to allot them Ashraya Houses under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme and other housing projects, while some others,alleging that persons with lower level of disability were getting preference over persons with higher percentage of disability in the preparation of the list of beneficiaries, wanted the authorities to ensure fairness in the preparation of the list.

A few persons complained that they were finding it difficult to get disability certificates, as at least one doctor from the three-member medical fraternity, skipped the meeting organised by Gram Panchayats for the purpose.

They also wanted strict implementation of the mandated 3 per cent reservation in respect of Group A and B posts and 5 per cent of posts in respect of Group C and D posts.

DHO Dr. B. Basavaraju, DCP N. Rudramuni, Women and Child  Welfare Department Deputy Director Radha, Department of Disabled Welfare Project Officer Srinivas, K.R. Hospital RMO Dr. Manjunath and other officials were present.
