Mysuru: The National Institute Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, conducted TEQIP-III sponsored workshop on ‘Do it yourself – Aerobic Composter’ to first year engineering students at NIE-Diamond Jubilee Sports Complex recently.
Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the workshop in a unique way by feeding the segregated green waste into the aerobic composter unit designed and fabricated by the students.
Addressing the gathering, he lauded the initiative taken by NIE in involving the students in designing innovative engineering solution and NIE’s contribution to society.
Appreciating the kitchen waste biogas and other green technologies developed and implemented by NIE-CREST (Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology), he also mentioned that he has installed the unit from NIE-CREST at his residence aslo.
G. S. Ramachandra, Hon. Secretary, NIE-Group of Institutions, presided.
S. Shamsundar, Head, NIE-CREST and Krishna Kumar, Quantum Leap Guru, were the resource persons. The session dealt with the importance of composters handling and segregation of wet waste at source. The composter fabricated by students will contribute towards Clean Mysuru and leads to Solid Waste Management, a right direction towards Swachh Bharat.
Totally 200 students participated and fabricated 15 Aerobic composters as part of ‘Do it yourself.’
Dr. G. Ravi, Principal, Dr. G.S. Suresh, Dean (Academic Affairs), Dr. T.N. Sridhar, Controller of Examinations, Dr. B.N. Yuvaraju, TEQIP Coordinator, Dr. K.K. Yogesh, Programme Coordinator, were present.
Dr. R. Chidanandappa, Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, Coordinator of the workshop, proposed a vote of thanks.
