Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep was on an inspection tour of Kukkarahalli Lake, here this morning braving rains, following a complaint from the members of Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP).
The MGP had complained that the inlets to the Lake had been blocked on eight sides thus depriving it of rainwater. The DC inspected all the inlets including the one from the Railway gate near Crawford Hall, behind Rangayana Canteen, Paduvarahalli side, KSOU and Manasagangothri Amphitheatre.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, Randeep said, “It is true that all the inlets have been blocked and also there is encroachment. I will immediately ask the University authorities to clear the inlets and allow the direct flow of water into the Lake.”
Regarding the Poornaiah canal from where the water was led into the Lake earlier, he said that efforts will be made to clear the obstruction near the bridge on the western side. The Sewage Treatment Plant has already been installed by the University, near the Lake adjacent to the land on southern side, he said.
University of Mysore Executive Engineer Kishore Chandra, Assistant Executive Engineer Shivalinga Prasad, MGP President S.D. Sahukar, Bhamy Shenoy and others were present.
