Mysore/Mysuru: Alleging that use of banned plastics is going on unchecked in the city and district, the Jana Sangram Parishat has urged the Deputy Commissioner (DC) to take necessary action for strict enforcement of ban.
Speaking to presspersons after submitting a memorandum in this regard to DC Dr. K.V. Rajendra at the DC’s office here on Friday, the Parishat Vice-President Prasanna said that the State and Central Governments have banned manufacture, sale and use of plastics having less than 51 micron thickness. But the Law banning use of specified plastics seem to have remained only on paper as the use of banned plastics, especially in markets, hotels, provision stores, fruits and vegetable shops and such other commercial establishments is going on unabated and unchecked. Numerous representations made to the MCC, Police and other concerned departments have proved futile as the use of banned plastics has continued openly, Prasanna said and urged the DC and other enforcement authorities to take immediate action for stopping use of banned plastics, which are posing a threat to the health of people and cattle.
Former Corporator M.C. Chikkanna, activists Nagarle M. Vijaykumar, Kamsale Ravi, Ramesh Kumar Mali and others were present.
