Decennial celebrations of Mysore Art Gallery

Mysuru:  The tenth anniversary celebration of Mysore Art Gallery set up by artist L. Shivalingappa, drew appreciation for his silent contribution to the field of art by everyone present at the function.

The celebration was held at Maneyangala in Kalamandira premises here yesterday and the drawings, paintings and other works of 14 artistes exhibited at Suchitra Art Gallery was also inaugurated on the occasion.

Littérateur Prof. Malali Vasanthakumar, speaking after releasing two books written by Shivalingappa titled ‘Sadhakara Savi Hejje’ and ‘Kalanveshaka Traiyaru’ lauding the efforts of the author, said that the author who had travelled the world and understood the richness of Indian art and culture by his simple and effective writing had focused on the three great artists Anand Kumar, K.K. Hebbar and Picasso in his book.

On the occasion, art patron Dr. U.G. Shenoy, Rajeshwari Vastralankara Rangathanda President B.M. Ramachandra,  Kadamba Rangavedike President Rajashekar Kadamba and Kannada Sahitya Kalakuta President M. Chandrashekar were felicitated.

Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy Chairman Prof. M.J. Kamalakshi spoke about the contributions of Shivalingappa.

There was also a seminar that followed in which Prof. C.V. Sridharamurthy, Dr. D.A. Upadhya, Dr. Vittal Reddy Chuluki and Ramadas Adhyantaya participated.

The exhibition at the Suchitra Art Gallery where the artists including L.S.S. Achar’s drawings, N.B. Kaverappa’s paintings, K.S. Narasimhamurthy’s black and white portraits and photographs, Dr. Jamuna Rani Mirle’s landscapes, Muni Rao Mane’s collection of photographs of cars and Goddess and Goddesses paintings, embroidery work of Sumitra Putty with life like portrayal of Shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, peacocks painted on waste cloths by art teacher K.H. Radha are all very eye-catching.

Mysore Art Gallery President L. Shivalingappa, Secretary Dr. Jamuna Rani Mirle, Treasurer Prabha Shivalingappa, former Prasaranga Director Prof. C. Naganna, Social Worker Dr. K. Raghuram Vajpayee and others were present during  the inaugural.
