Bengaluru: The suggestion from Primary and Secondary Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar to consider only marks obtained in CET and NEET for admission to professional courses will be considered and a decision will be taken soon, said Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister, Dr. C.N. Ashwathnarayan.
He told media here yesterday that till now, getting minimum marks was set as a criterion for seeking admission to Engineering and Medical courses. But, now, in view of the cancellation of annual examinations, this would not be possible. So, a new decision will be taken after discussing with officials concerned and academicians.
Since it will also require an amendment to the existing Act, this will be discussed with legal experts and Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa too, he said.
It may be mentioned here that Minister Suresh Kumar on Saturday appealed to Minister Dr. Ashwathnarayan to consider only CET marks for admission to professional courses since the State has cancelled Board examination for II PUC students.
In a letter to Dr. Ashwathnarayan, he said, “We have taken the decision to cancel the II PU exams and the decision was necessary to balance the intensity of COVID second wave and safety of the students and parents.”
“We have followed certain guidelines behind the decision to pass II PUC students without a test. We have also decided to give grading results by considering these students’ I PU scores as well as SSLC result and adding the appropriate value. We have also announced that if any student is not satisfied with his or her results, tests can be taken at later dates and it may be difficult to make a more relevant decision,” he stated.
Usually II PU marks are considered for CET and the result is declared by providing appropriate weightage. This time grading result will give students the opportunity to take another test even though they are sure of their talent. Thus, it is important to note that this time the II PU students may take CET into account, and this may be useful for students, he added.
