Mysuru: A meeting held to discuss the exclusion of the Dasara Film Festival from this year’s Dasara celebrations unanimously decided to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and District Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, seeking a re-look at the decision and speedy implementation of the Film City project in Mysuru.
Noted film director S.V. Rajendra Singh (Babu) chaired the meeting at Jaladarshini Guest House on Hunsur Road.
Representatives of various Associations expressed their views on the decision to drop the Film Festival and the need to establish a Film City in Mysuru.
Rajendra Singh opined that officials, not Chief Minister, may have taken the decision to drop the Dasara Film Festival. It was later decided to submit a memorandum to the CM seeking a discussion on the Film Festival and the Film City project in Mysuru.
Kannada Kavalu Pade President Mohan Kumar Gowda, journalist Prakash Babu, former Corporator K.V. Mallesh, Kannada activist Mugur Nanjundaswamy, agri-scientist Vasanth Kumar Thimakapura, former Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, activist Arvind Sharma and others were present on the occasion.
Stop Kambala, organise Film Fest
Parisarakkaagi Naavu has condemned the Government’s decision to cancel the Dasara Film Festival, citing lack of audience as the reason.
According to ‘Parisarakkaagi Naavu’ General Secretary Parashuramegowda, the decline in attendance was not due to public disinterest but to the inefficiency of the authorities concerned.
“The festival should not be judged on profit and loss. Its cost is only Rs. 40-45 lakh, while the Govt. is willing to spend Rs. 10-12 crore on organising Kambala, a coastal rural sport irrelevant to this region. This is not a prudent approach,” the organisation said.
