Mysuru: Continuing with their protests demanding Cabinet berth for former Minister and Narasimharaja (NR) Constituency MLA Tanveer Sait, hundreds of supporters of Sait and Congress workers staged a protest at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle (Highway Circle) in the city last evening. As the protesters staged relay protests and set an used tyre on fire, Police detained the protesters and released them later.
Earlier, the protesters, who staged a sit-in demonstration in front of Highway Circle, held placards and raised slogans in support of their leader. They raised slogans like ‘Justice for Tanveer Sait, six-time MLA’, ‘Ayyayyo Anyaya’ (Injustice) among others, besides making a vain bid to disrupt free flow of traffic.

Speaking to media persons, the protesters said that Congress came to power in the State, following the relentless struggle and organisational ability of D.K. Shivakumar as the KPCC President. Even after Siddaramaiah returned as the CM, Sait was not considered for the Ministry. With D.K. Shivakumar, becoming the CM, Sait should be given his due at least now, they demanded.
Former Corporator Suhail Baig, Basheer Ahmed, Akmal Pasha, Congress Block Committee Presidents Manjunath, Syed Iqbal, Mysuru District Congress Committee Vice-President N. Madegowda and others took part in the protest.
Torchlight rally
In another protest, Congress leaders led by Azeez Sait Block Congress Committee President Syed Iqbal, took out a torchlight rally from FTS Circle to Fountain Circle in city yesterday. Protesters throughout the rally, raised slogans insisting on the induction of their leader to the Council of Ministers headed by CM D.K. Shivakumar. Vice-President of Azeez Sait Block Congress Committee Shahimsha Ahmed, former Corporators K.C. Showkath Pasha and Ayaz Pasha, Congress leaders Mohammed Irfan, Afroz Khan, Showkath Ali Khan, Pradeep Chandra, Vinod and others took part in the rally.
