Vellore: Six persons, who were part of 15 persons travelling in three cars and a bike were killed on the spot in an accident which took place near Vellore coming under Ratnagiri Police Station limits yesterday afternoon.
It is learnt that they were on their way to Thiruthani Temple in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.
The deceased have been identified as Bhagyalakshmi (65), Lakshmipriya (35) and Govindaraj (55) from Bengaluru, Charlie (25) and Jnanaraj (23) from Chennai and Ravichandra (53) from Vellore. All the injured have been admitted to Vellore Government Hospital.
According to sources, around 3.30 pm yesterday, a Tata Indica and a Mahindra Scorpio collided with a Mercedes Benz car (KA-12 P-9508) coming from the opposite side, instantly killing four people on the spot while two others died later in the hospital.
Sources said that the Benz car, which was going from Bengaluru to Chennai hit a two-wheeler and swerved into the opposite lane and collided with the Scorpio heading towards Bengaluru and the Indica car which was behind the Scorpio rammed into it and fell into a pit.
The impact of the accident was so severe, that the vehicles piled up on the busy stretch. As the doors of the vehicles were jammed, the Police had to break open the doors to extract the bodies.
It is learnt that among the injured are Keerthan, son of V.T. Dinesh, a Kushalnagar-based contractor, his friends Nishanth from Bengaluru and Saif from Mysuru.
They were proceeding to Chennai when Keerthan applied sudden brake to avoid ramming into an oncoming bike, which led to the accident. Ratnagiri Police have registered a case in this regard.
