Today when I visited Brindavan Gardens, located 12 kms from the city of Mysuru in Mandya district, I came to know that ‘single’ visitors are not permitted to enter the Gardens. Only couples or groups are allowed.

On enquiry, the Gate Guards told me that a few days ago two people tried to commit suicide at the water body inside the Gardens and so the Mandya Deputy Commissioner (DC)  issued order to prohibit entry of ‘single’ visitors.

The DC’s action is arbitrary and denial of civil rights to ‘single’ individuals. If somebody tried to commit suicide inside the Gardens, why ‘single’ visitors should be punished for that? Instead of providing better ‘watch and ward’ to the Gardens, the DC has denied access to the Brindavan Gardens to a section of the society. This action is highly condemnable.
