Bengaluru:  Kannada film Devara Kanasu, Directed by Suresh Lakkoor, has been selected for screening at France’s Cannes International Film Festival. It is the only Kannada film to be selected for this year’s festival scheduled between  July 7 and 14. 

The movie, involving two children, deals with contemporary social issues that haunt rural areas in Karnataka. “We sub-mitted the film to the committee about 10 days ago and received communication about its screening two days ago,” Lakkoor, who has undergone training at New York Film Academy said.

“It has been submitted to five other reputed international film festivals outside India. It will be released in Karnataka, depending on the Covid situation, after its screening in Cannes,” he said. Technicians from West Bengal, Kerala, Delhi and Mumbai have worked for the film. 

Shooting for the movie was done for 29 days in  Chikka-ballapur District. Lakkoor had earlier worked for the ‘Crazy Star’ Ravichandran-starrer Drishya (2014), a remake of the Malayalam runaway hit Drishyam.
