Mysore/Mysuru: Devaraja Traffic Police, as part of the 32nd National Road Safety Month-2021, conducted a programme in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the North Gate of Mysore Palace to create awareness about road safety on Sunday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) – Traffic Sandesh Kumar, who inaugurated the programme, distributed handbills containing traffic rules to autorickshaw drivers.
Speaking on the occasion, the ACP said that more than 1.5 lakh people die in road accidents in the country every year and added that what would be the fate of the family members if the bread-winner of the family dies.
Pointing out that motorists drive or ride vehicles with family problems in mind and forget to concentrate while on road, the ACP said that this was leading to many road accidents besides stating that majority of youths speak over mobile phones while riding and perform wheelie for fun, which is also one of the reasons for accidents.
On the occasion, a short film on the reasons for accidents taking place, precautions to be taken while riding and driving vehicles and rules to be followed was screened.
Devaraja Traffic Inspector N. Muniyappa, Narasimharaja Traffic Inspector Prasanna Kumar, Krishnaraja Traffic Inspector D. Basavaraju, V.V. Puram Traffic Inspector Aruna Kumari, Sub-Inspector Lepaksha, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rangaswamy Gowda and Prakash and Kiran Kashyap and Mahesh of Mandovi Motors were present.
422 killed, 1,705 injured in road accidents from 2018 to 2020
In Mysuru city, 422 people have lost their lives and 1,705 people injured, according to the statistics of 2018, 2019 and 2020. In 2018, 151 were killed and 598 injured; 2019: 149 killed and 643 injured and in 2020: 122 people lost their lives and 464 people were injured.
